QKR Namibia Navachab Gold Mine has spent N$2.3 million on training and skills development in 2025, including practical industry experience for interns, graduates and apprentices.
Speaking during a media briefing Friday, the mine`s Managing Director, George Botshiwe said the mine engaged more than 100 interns in 2025, with many eventually being offered employment.
“100 plus interns in any year that we train. And most of them, we end up offering employment anyway,” Botshiwe said.
He explained that those who are not employed by Navachab become highly employable at other mines.
The mine’s skills-development activities included practical industry experience for interns, graduates and apprentices, technical training for newly recruited operators, and supervisory and soft-skills training for management.
Botshiwe said the mine also invests in on-the-job training and upskilling its existing workforce.
“We do spend a lot of money just training up interns, but more so training up our people on-the-job training and upskilling our people as well,” he said.
Navachab produced more than 130,000 ounces of gold in 2025, its highest production level to date, Botshiwe said.
